Ghostwriting,Writing Coach, Editing, Proposal Writing, Copywriting, and Publishing Services

Ghost Writing: A professional ghostwriter is someone who is hired to write a book. Often celebrities and field professionals hire ghostwriters to write their books for them, yet the ghostwriter typically does not receive credit for the writing and is paid a fee for writing. In the case of Gracefully: Looking and Being Your Best at Any Age (Mc Graw Hill, 2008), which I coauthored with Valerie Ramsey, I was given a "with" credit. This is an option that can be worked out between the ghostwriter and client.

Writing Coach: As a professional writer and editor, I have assisted several authors on their path to becoming published. From manuscript critiques (i.e. finding point of view shifts, consistencies, etc.) to writing the all important query letter and book proposal, I walk my clients through the steps of polishing their manuscripts to finding an agent. With a 96% rejection rate among agents, writers must be on top of their game!

Editing: No matter how many times you've read your manuscript over and reedited it, there are still mistakes and inconsistencies your eyes won't catch because their so used to seeing the words on the page. A fresh pair of eyes from a friend or family member may catch some inconstancies, but a professional editor will find point of view shifts, unnecessary dialog tags, and so much more. As an editor, I provide my clients with heavy feedback using the "Track Changes" and "Comments" features in Word. I also meet with my clients half way through the project so that there are no surprises at the end when I hand their manuscript back to them.

Copywriting: Have a newsletter, web content, or ad you want written? As I copywriter, I write your newsletters and ads for you. An added service includes automatic distribution to your contact list.

Proposal and Query Writing: Most new writers are unaware of the submission guidelines in the publishing industry as required by agents and publishers. For instance, almost every top publishing house only accepts agent submissions. Agents also have their own set of guidelines for submission. Some asking for only a query letter, others allowing sample pages or chapters, but none of them want the full manuscript unless requested after reading the query and sample pages. One of the reasons, I believe, agents have a 96% rejection rate is that so many submissions don't meet their guidelines, and this is the fastest way for your hard work to end up in the recycle bin!

Publish Your Book Through PathBinder Publishing

“What exactly is PathBinder Publishing?”

That’s the first question asked by PathBinder’s authors. They’ve often given up or didn’t want to brave the “New York route” to publishing and were daunted by the idea of “self publishing.”

PathBinder is not a traditional New York City publishing house and it’s not a traditional self publisher either. What is it then? It is a full-service publishing house. PathBinder charges a flat fee of $950 for its services. We offer higher royalty payments (30%) and we take in each new book as a member of the family. Most of PathBinder’s books are published within a 2-3 month period, depending on how ready the book is for publication. We use a Print on Demand printing service, which means there are no requirements for large printings. Every book is automatically listed on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, with Ingram and Baker & Taylor, as well as on PathBinder’s site within a week or so of publication. Authors receive a proof of their book for final review, and are offered a low author discount on each book. Many of PathBinder’s authors teach workshops and resell their books as “back table” sales.

"As a first time author, PathBinder Publishing and Heather Hummel provided me the guidance and the most productive route for publishing my memoir. H. Hummel's attention to details and promotion efforts resulted not only in higher than expected sales, but also in expanded exposure. As an independent publisher, PathBinder gave me the attention I needed and the coaching I required to fine tune my book. My future plans include more books released through PathBinder!"

Above and beyond those services, PathBinder provides a welcoming environment for authors breaking into the industry. Personalized service and attention is paramount to our reputation as we guide authors through the waters of publishing.

How the publishing industry works has completely flip-flopped. Authors used to be able to spend their days sitting in coffee shops, sipping lattes and plunking and plodding away on their keyboards at 2,000 words per day intervals. Nowadays they are lucky to squeeze in 2,000 words a week. Why? Because 75% of their time is now spent marketing rather than writing…unless you count writing blogs, press releases, and promotional ads.

In addition, what a lot of authors don’t realize is that traditional New York publishing houses will require a new author to hire an outside publicist as part of their contract. These publicists can range from $5,000 to $25,000 and more, often costing more than the advance for their books. PathBinder Publishing encourages and assists its authors with promoting their books in the traditional areas and also niche markets. We highly recommend services such as Jo-Anne Vandermeulen’s “Premium Promotional Services” to help them with promoting. Companies like Jo-Anne’s are dedicated to showing authors the avenues to promote their work at more affordable rates, allowing authors to enjoy their profits sooner. Most importantly, it allows authors to continue doing what they love – writing!

Speaking of writers, PathBinder welcomes authors of many genres, but encourages those specializing in Body, Mind, & Soul the most. We print books in paperback, hardcover, color and black and white. We have published books in the following genres:

·         Memoir

·         Self Help

·         Sports Fiction

·         Sports Nonfiction

·         Body, Mind, & Soul

·         Journals/Diaries

·         Poetry

·         Women’s Literature

·         Spiritual and Metaphysical

We provide authors with the tools to launch their career, and should they someday land a big deal with a larger publisher, we toast and cheer them on.

If you have a manuscript ready for publication, and are comfortable with paying for the services that PathBinder offers, knowing the return on your investment is around the corner, then please contact us at HeatherHummel@PathBinder.com or visit www.pathbinder.com.

Clients' Rave Reviews and Testimonials

Additional Fees for Travel

If travel is required for a project, additional fees for expenses will accrue. If travel outside of town is necessary, the client is responsible for paying the expense of hotels, transportation and airfare.

FAQ:
What do you base your fees on? Fees vary with all contractors depending on the levels of expertise. Wedding photographers, for example, range from free to thousands of dollars. Similarly, and as such within any professional, ghostwriters and editors are paid for their proven experience in the field. Based on a combination of research and my credentials, my fees are noted accordingly and competitively. Where the fees vary is in the complexity of the job. Projects that require intense research, interviews, transcribing, heavy edits, etc. will, naturally, cost more.

Why should I pay money up front? Receiving money up front is standard procedure in this business. Due to the amount of research, interviewing, and preparing, it is customary to receive a portion up front as a good faith measure. If the job is a small editing job (less than $250), I am happy to bill for the project upon completion.
